Sabah cabinet sworn in with 10 ministers under new GRS government

Ten state assemblymen take their oaths as Sabah cabinet ministers, forming the new GRS-led state government following the weekend’s election.

KOTA KINABALU: Ten state assemblymen were sworn in as Sabah cabinet ministers before Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman on Monday.

The ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu formalised the new Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led state government.

The lineup comprises seven assemblymen from GRS, and one each from United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Heading the list was Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, the Kundasang assemblyman.

Also sworn in were GRS secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (Karanaan) and UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick (Kadamaian).

Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) vice-presidents Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif (Membakut) and Datuk Rubin Balang (Kemabong) took their oaths.

PGRS information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (Apas) and Sugut PGRS division chief Datuk James Ratib (Sugut) were also sworn in.

Completing the lineup were PBS secretary-general Datuk Julita Mojungki (Matunggong), Sabah UMNO secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin (Sukau) and Melalap assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (PH).

GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Sabah early on Sunday.

GRS secured 29 of the 73 seats contested in Saturday’s state election.

Warisan won 25 seats, followed by BN with six and Independents with five.

UPKO and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) won three and two seats respectively.

Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) and PH each won one seat.
