Felda and FGV review documents after Terengganu plantation warning notices

Felda and FGV are reviewing land documents after Terengganu issued warning notices for plantation lots, citing a short three-day compliance window

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and FGV Holdings Berhad are conducting a comprehensive review of all related documents following warning notices issued by the Terengganu government.

The notices for alleged unlawful occupation or trespassing were issued for plantation lots in Besut, Setiu, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman districts.

In a joint statement, the entities said the review covers historical records, payment documentation, land premium transactions, ownership status and plantation development conditions.

“This review process is being carried out thoroughly through a comprehensive land audit and cross-verification with state authority data,” they stated.

Felda and FGV stressed the three-day window given to vacate or demolish structures was extremely short and challenging from a commercial operations standpoint.

The statement clarified that Felda has rights and legal standing under the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act 1960.

It added that commercial plantation development in Terengganu has long generated income to support community development and socio-economic programmes for settlers.

The entities acknowledged various views and speculation but emphasised the matter will be addressed professionally in accordance with legal procedures.

They are reviewing the legal implications in detail to manage the impact and protect the interests of settlers.

This includes safeguarding the livelihood of 1,283 workers whose income depends on these plantation operations.

“The welfare of Felda and FGV workers, the interests of the settler community and the socio-economic stability of surrounding communities will remain the top priority,” the statement read.

Both entities stressed the warning notices do not affect the operations of settler-owned plantations nor the daily routines of settlers in Felda’s Terengganu Region.

However, the notices have direct implications for Felda and FGV operations, particularly long-term planning and the continuity of related commercial activities.

Felda and FGV expressed confidence that the best possible resolution can be achieved through proper legal processes involving all relevant government institutions.

“Felda and FGV are committed to ensuring that every action is taken in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded. – Bernama
