Bukit Aman forms special team to probe Melaka fatal shooting claims

Bukit Aman CID forms a special team to investigate families’ claims over the Durian Tunggal fatal police shooting, pledging a transparent probe.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has formed a special team to investigate reports lodged by the families of three men shot dead by police in Melaka.

CID director Datuk M Kumar confirmed police received the report earlier today.

He stated that Bukit Aman CID views the matter seriously and assures investigations will be conducted transparently, fairly and professionally.

“A special team has been established at CID level to take over the investigation in full,” Kumar said in a statement.

He reminded the public not to speculate or manipulate information that could compromise the probe.

Kumar urged anyone with relevant information to contact the CID hotline at 019-3764763.

The families have denied claims that the three men behaved aggressively or attacked police personnel.

On November 24, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects were shot dead after one swung a machete at a police corporal.

The 4.30 am confrontation at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal left the corporal seriously injured in the left arm.

The men were believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang and suspected to be en route to commit a robbery.

They had been linked to 20 cases in Melaka, and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, involving losses totalling RM1.35 million. – Bernama
