Malaysia’s ENEGEM platform has exported 375GWh of renewable energy to Singapore, positioning the country as a regional green power hub
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 375 gigawatt hours of green energy has been exported to Singapore via the Energy Exchange Malaysia platform as of October 2025.
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation said ENEGEM was introduced in 2023 under the Cross Border Electricity Sales for Renewable Energy initiative.
The platform enables the sale of renewable electricity to neighbouring countries like Singapore through a bidding mechanism.
It was initially implemented in a pilot phase offering 50 megawatts to Singaporean bidders, scheduled to conclude in December 2026.
“The establishment of ENEGEM is a significant national achievement in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a renewable energy leader in Southeast Asia through a transparent bidding mechanism,” the ministry stated.
It added that improvements are being made to ensure the platform remains progressive, enabling Malaysia to become a regional cross-border green electricity trading hub.
The ministry was responding to a parliamentary question regarding ENEGEM’s achievements and its role in positioning Malaysia as a regional renewable energy hub.
ENEGEM provides a strong institutional and market foundation to connect Malaysia’s renewable energy supply with regional demand.
The ministry said Malaysia has great potential to emerge as a key renewable energy hub under the ASEAN Power Grid framework.
This potential is aligned with efforts to expand interconnection infrastructure and increase clean energy project development. – Bernama
