DOSM GEOHUB integrates official statistics with location data, aiding government planning, impact assessments and targeted policy interventions
KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has launched the DOSM GEOHUB data portal to unify geospatial information with the country’s official statistics.
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the platform is a digital mapping initiative aligned with United Nations recommendations in the Global Statistical Geospatial Framework.
“DOSM GEOHUB offers various functions that support access, usage and understanding of national statistics based on geospatial elements,” he said at the launch.
He stated the portal supports government agencies, researchers and policymakers for urban planning, impact assessments and targeted development interventions.
The in-house developed platform enables decision-making based on granular location analysis for precisely targeted policies.
“DOSM GEOHUB becomes the heart of integration between statistics and geospatial data to address today’s development questions,” Mohd Uzir added.
He said it paves the way for a more sustainable, inclusive and evidence-based future in decision-making.
The hub brings together spatial visualisations from social, economic and environmental statistics for comprehensive national analysis.
Users can explore population, gender, age, economic and projection data at national, state and district levels.
It provides interactive thematic maps with spatial analysis and data layers conforming to Open Geospatial Consortium standards.
The Storymap function presents development narratives using maps, graphics and images for easier user understanding. – Bernama
