PM Anwar clarifies all financial commitments for Felda land in Terengganu were paid earlier, with follow-up now needed from the state government
PUTRAJAYA: All financial requirements related to the Felda land issue in Terengganu were settled by the federal government earlier.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified this during a Cabinet meeting.
“The Prime Minister stated that all financial requirements related to the land have been settled, have been paid earlier, but there are several matters that were not followed up by the state government,” Fahmi told reporters.
He said the Treasury secretary-general held discussions with the Terengganu state government this afternoon to ensure federal settlements are followed up.
Fahmi made these remarks after attending the national-level International Anti-Corruption Day 2025 celebration.
The Terengganu government issued a notice last Sunday prohibiting encroachment on Felda-managed land across 10 plantations.
The notice covers about 15,000 hectares in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun and Hulu Terengganu.
State authorities claimed the land had been cultivated for over 40 years without payment of premiums, taxes or profit-sharing.
Terengganu Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim said the action followed Felda’s failure to respond to a demand for 30% profit-sharing. – Bernama
