Woman triggers debate after receiving note for parking in ‘reserved’ public space at Kajang flats

A woman has criticised the culture of reserving public parking spaces after receiving a note in Kajang, sparking debate over parking rights and entitlement.

PREVIOUSLY, parking issues in flat residential areas drew widespread attention after residents were allegedly found reserving public parking spaces with various objects, ranging from water bottles to traffic cones.

Recently, a woman claimed she found herself in a similar situation after receiving a note from a resident of a flat in Kajang for parking in a public space near the property.

“Was I wrong for parking in an empty space that wasn’t even marked with a parking bay number, and where no parking fee was required?

“Public parking is still public parking. There’s no such thing as ‘my parking spot’ unless you own it or have exclusive rights to it,” she wrote in a Threads post.

According to the post, the note reprimanded her for parking in the space without leaving her contact number and warned her not to park there again.

“Please don’t normalise the culture of ‘reserving’ public parking spaces,” she added.

Many netizens shared the woman’s frustration, while others said they would rather live in an area where parking is readily available, whether paid or free.

However, the practice of reserving public parking spaces is not limited to flats and apartment complexes, but also occurs in landed residential neighbourhoods.

One commenter shared that they had also received a note from a resident of a landed property after parking by the roadside near a school, with the resident allegedly claiming they had taken a parking space the resident had been using for a long time.
