A car salesman is stunned after a customer earning RM2,000 a month enquires about buying a Mercedes-Benz C200 luxury vehicle.
BUYING a luxury car is a dream for many Malaysians, but owning one comes with significant financial commitments that extend far beyond the monthly loan repayments.
A car salesman recently found himself taken aback after a potential customer expressed interest in buying a Mercedes-Benz C200 despite earning just RM2,000 a month.

In a Threads post, the salesman shared a screenshot of his conversation with the prospective buyer, revealing the unusual enquiry.
The exchange began when the customer asked whether his RM2,000 monthly salary would be sufficient to purchase a car. Curious about his choice, the salesman asked which model he was interested in.
The customer then revealed that he wanted a Mercedes-Benz C200.
Surprised by the response, the salesman double-checked whether the customer’s stated income was indeed RM2,000 a month and not in another currency.
The customer confidently replied: “Yes, boss.”
The salesman said he was left wondering how the customer believed he could afford a luxury vehicle on such a salary, adding that it was not the first time he had encountered buyers with unrealistic expectations.
He also pointed out that owning a premium vehicle involves substantial running costs beyond the purchase price, with annual insurance premiums alone potentially ranging between RM8,000 and RM10,000.
The post triggered discussion among netizens, many of whom said that maintaining even an entry-level car could be difficult on a RM2,000 monthly income.
“With a RM2,000 salary? You might not even be able to afford a low-spec Axia, let alone a Bezza,” one user commented.
Another took a lighter view of the situation.
“Just entertain him for now. Who knows? Maybe in three or four years, when he’s earning more, he’ll come back looking for you,” the user wrote.
