Emery says Arsenal clash is ultimate test for Aston Villa’s ambitions

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery says facing Premier League leaders Arsenal is a huge test of his in-form side’s progress and title credentials.

ASTON Villa manager Unai Emery says Saturday’s clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal is the ultimate test of his team’s ambitions.

Villa have stormed up to third in the table after a poor start to the season, winning eight of their last nine games.

They now sit just six points behind the Gunners ahead of the match at Villa Park.

Emery believes his former club are favourites to win their first league title in over two decades.

“We now have the really huge opportunity tomorrow to play against Arsenal — the best team until now and, of course, I think the favourites to win this trophy,” he said on Friday.

“After our progress, tomorrow is a really huge test.”

A Villa victory in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off would temporarily move them up to second place.

Emery cautioned that his team’s rapid rise should be kept in perspective, however.

“Two months ago, we were at the bottom, now we are at the top,” he said.

“Maybe, in two months, we can again come back down. This is football and this is the Premier League — the most difficult.” – AFP
