Lorry driver detained in KL for multiple expired vehicle documents

A lorry driver was arrested in Kuala Lumpur for driving with expired insurance, licence, and permits during a commercial vehicle operation.

KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver who was driving an empty vehicle was detained by the Road Transport Department (RTD) in a Commercial Vehicle Special Ops at Jalan Kepong here, yesterday for driving with various expired documents including not having lorry operator’s licence.

Kuala Lumpur RTD director Hamidi Adam said checks found that the 41-year-old man not only did not have valid insurance, but also had an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and Goods Vehicle Licence (GDL).

“The inspection also found that the Puspakom periodic inspection certificate had also expired.

“In fact, the lorry driver involved said he was still driving the vehicle because he was following the employer’s instructions,” he said in a statement today.

Hamidi said RTD would call the employer to assist in the investigation, while the lorry was also seized and the case was being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Kuala Lumpur RTD always pays attention and carries out continuous monitoring on all complaints to ensure vehicles comply with traffic laws,” he said.

He said any traffic complaints could be channelled to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or the e-aduan platform along with the complainant’s details and the complaint details.
