Missing five-year-old girls found safe in Santubong after overnight search

Two five-year-old girls reported missing in Santubong have been found safe near a beach, ending a search operation involving family and authorities

SANTUBONG: Two five-year-old girls reported missing in Kampung Pasir Pandak have been found safe.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre stated the children were discovered by villagers near Batu Gelingan beach at 9.50 am.

They were located approximately one kilometre from the search operations control centre.

Both girls were subsequently taken to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

The search and rescue operation was officially concluded at 10.06 am.

The girls had been reported missing after heading to their grandmother’s house to play yesterday morning.

Their father discovered their absence at 11 am and initiated initial search efforts with other villagers.

A formal police report regarding the disappearance was filed at 6 pm yesterday.

One victim, Humaira Qalesya Mohd Dir, was wearing a black and white striped shirt with blue jeans.

Her companion, Nur Ashafieya Aisyah And Nasru Asrafie, was in a white shirt and purple slippers.

The uncle of one victim, Mohd Zulkifli Safiee, said a hunch led him to re-check a rocky area.

“I went back because my hunch said they were still there and it was correct,” he stated.

He found the girls sitting on a rock in a weak and confused state.

They told him an ‘older sister’ had taken them to bathe in the sea.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri visited the search location.

She was present to monitor the operation’s progress and meet the children’s family. – Bernama
