James Harden passed Carmelo Anthony for 10th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, but his 34 points couldn’t prevent the Clippers’ loss to Minnesota
LOS ANGELES: James Harden moved into the top 10 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Saturday.
The 36-year-old needed 20 points to pass Carmelo Anthony’s total of 28,289 and achieved the feat in the third quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Harden finished the game with 34 points in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 109-106 defeat.
He is now one of only three active players in the top 10, alongside Kevin Durant and all-time leader LeBron James.
Now in his 17th season, Harden led the NBA in scoring for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2020.
The Clippers fell to 6-18 despite leading by as many as 18 points during the game.
Jaden McDaniels scored 27 points and Julius Randle added 24 for the victorious Timberwolves.
In other NBA action, Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson posted his second straight triple-double in a 131-116 win over Washington.
Johnson scored 30 points with 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the absence of injured star Trae Young.
The injury-depleted Golden State Warriors shocked the Cleveland Cavaliers 99-94 on the road.
With Stephen Curry and five other key players sidelined, Pat Spencer made his first NBA start and led the Warriors with a career-high 19 points.
Donovan Mitchell’s 29 points were not enough for the Cavaliers in the closing moments.
Eastern Conference leaders Detroit defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 124-112.
Cade Cunningham had 23 points and 12 assists for the Pistons, while the Bucks played without the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Sacramento Kings beat the Miami Heat 127-111 behind a season-high 42 points from Zach LaVine.
