KAMPAR: Over 8,000 participants, including the public, caregivers, and cancer survivors, took part in the Relay For Life Malaysia 2025 event, held across six states this year.
This annual event, organised by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), aims to inspire cancer patients and caregivers to continue their battle, while also raising public awareness about cancer.
NCSM managing director, Prof Dr M Murallitharan, said this year’s Relay For Life took place in six different locations, starting in Penang, followed by Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and finally Perak.
He emphasised that the spirit of Relay For Life continues to flourish, thanks to the unwavering commitment of over 40 partners, including non-profit organisations, support groups, and government agencies.
“The participation of cancer survivors and the support from thousands of community members stand as a testament to the hope and solidarity that fuel this event,” he said.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each state government, local council, and citizens for transforming this event into a national movement. This collective spirit is instrumental in raising awareness about cancer and improving the quality of life for patients,” he added.
Earlier, the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, graciously officiated the event at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman here.
The event, which saw around 1,200 participants, was also attended by Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, wife of the Menteri Besar of Perak.
Each Relay of Llife event commenced with a moving Luminaria ceremony, featuring heartfelt testimonies from caregivers and cancer survivors, a deeply inspiring performance, and the Luminaria March to honour those who have lost their battle with cancer and a celebration of the strength and resilience of those who continue to fight.
