Anwar urges use of political stability for people-centric programmes

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for leveraging Malaysia’s political stability to implement clear programmes for the people and combat corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all parties to utilise the nation’s current political stability to formulate and implement clear programmes for the people’s benefit.

Speaking at the Monthly Assembly of the Ministry of Works, Anwar said this stability has enabled the government to record strong economic growth, reduce unemployment, and achieve the highest investment inflow in history.

“Several years ago, our country was politically unstable, now it has been three years of stable government and national politics,” he said.

He credited the Cabinet’s collective determination and the Chief Secretary to the Government for translating policies into action, noting the near-elimination of hardcore poverty.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that shortcomings remain and require addressing for greater success.

“I emphasise that sometimes in our battles, whether (in terms of) politics, disagreements, ideology, race, tribe and state, sometimes we lose our human values,” he said.

Commenting on the MADANI government’s anti-corruption drive, Anwar expressed sadness over a trend that glorifies bribe-givers.

“We say we hate corruption but when we take action, if it happens to our friends, we are angry,” he stated.

He described the trend to deify bribe-givers as very disturbing, asserting it hinders national progress. – Bernama
