Malayan Tigress exit SEA Games after loss to Myanmar

The Malayan Tigresses are out of the 2025 SEA Games following a 3-0 defeat to Myanmar, ending their hopes of reaching the semi-finals in Thailand.

THE national women’s football team have been eliminated from the 2025 SEA Games after losing 3-0 to Myanmar in their Group B match today.

Myanmar carved out a comfortable 2-0 lead before halftime at the Thai National Sports University in Chonburi.

San Thaw Thaw opened the scoring in the 26th minute before May Htet Lu added a second in the 35th.

The Malayan Tigresses tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but their hopes were dashed when they were reduced to ten players.

Adrienna Zamzaihiri was shown a red card in the 60th minute, and Myanmar capitalised on the advantage five minutes later with a third goal from Theingi Tun.

National head coach Joel Cornelli expressed satisfaction with his players’ fighting spirit against one of the region’s notable teams.

“We have more than two years to prepare this team for the next SEA Games,” he said after the match.

Cornelli was confident the current squad could achieve better results with adequate assistance and support.

“I repeat, with more work and stronger support from the country, especially in terms of funding for women’s football, I am sure we can build a more competitive team.”

Malaysia will wrap up their campaign with a final match against the Philippines.

The Tigresses have suffered two consecutive losses, having been thrashed 7-0 by defending champions Vietnam in their opening game.
