Selangor fully recovers from floods, Perak evacuee numbers drop

Selangor closes its final flood relief centre, while Perak sees a decrease in evacuees as flood conditions improve in both states.

SELANGOR: The state has fully recovered from recent floods with the closure of its final temporary relief centre in Kuala Selangor.

The centre at Sekolah Rendah Agama Pasangan, which housed 38 victims from 12 families, was closed at 3 pm yesterday.

Kuala Selangor District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Raiz Radzuan said all victims from Kampung Asahan were allowed to return home.

He added that 20 centres had been opened since Nov 24, with 29 areas throughout the district being hit by floods.

PERAK: The number of flood victims dropped to 411 people from 122 families this morning.

They are still sheltering at five centres across three districts, down from 487 evacuees from 140 families last night.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said one centre in Hilir Perak was closed at 8.30 pm yesterday.

The Bagan Datuk Youth and Sports Complex Hall now has the highest number of evacuees at 142 people from 45 families.

Manjung district has 140 people from 40 families at two centres, while Hilir Perak houses 129 victims from 37 families at two centres.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms for the three affected Perak areas this morning. – Bernama
