Police and wildlife authorities intensify patrols after tiger sighting in Chemor

Police and Perhilitan increase monitoring in Chemor after a tiger sighting and cattle attack, closing the area to recreational activities.

TAPAH: Police and the Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department have intensified monitoring around Bukit Bangkong, Tanah Hitam in Chemor following a tiger sighting.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the patrols aim to prevent unauthorised individuals, including potential poachers, from entering the area.

“We will ensure continuous patrols together with Perhilitan to keep the area free from those who have no reason to be there,“ he said.

He stated that Bukit Bangkong and its surroundings remain closed to all recreational activities.

The police have advised residents in Chemor, Tanah Hitam and Changkat Kinding to stay vigilant.

“We are concerned that the tiger may still be roaming in the area,“ Noor Hisam added.

He made these remarks after a police duties handover ceremony in Tapah.

Police previously received a report of a suspected tiger attack last Friday.

A cattle owner reported finding two of his animals dead with bite marks at about 6.30 pm.

Five other cattle from the herd in Bukit Bangkong were also reported missing.
