Kedah influencer: I officiated school event as entrepreneur

Kedah influencer defends role in school event, claiming he was invited as an entrepreneur for motivation

AN influencer and entrepreneur recently came under fire online after officiating a school event in Kedah.

A viral video posted on Threads showed the local online figure walking into the event dressed in a black baju Melayu while being accompanied by an entourage.

However, the post drew backlash, with many netizens questioning his credibility to officiate such an event.

“Doesn’t the Education Ministry filter who can officiate school events?” one user asked.

“How can this school set such a low standard for its students by inviting someone who hasn’t even proven anything in life and calling that an ‘inspiration’?” another questioned.

Meanwhile, many speculated that the entrepreneur may have donated to the school, which could have led to the invitation.

Following the backlash, the influencer released a statement addressing the situation, explaining that he had attended the event as an entrepreneur, as the school had held two programmes—Student Excellence Day and Entrepreneurship Day.

“To all those present, this is my explanation. I attended the event as an entrepreneur and influencer who only wanted to encourage students to study and become successful in their futures.

“My attendance at a school event should not be an issue. This is not the first school event I have attended – I have been to six schools and I have not spoken about politics, as I am not a politician. I merely educate others on how to become successful,” he added.

He admitted in the video that he had been surprised by the invitation but ultimately accepted it in order to maintain relationships with various parties. He added that he was comfortable attending since the topics were related to his profession as a business owner.

He further shared that although he did not complete his tertiary education due to caring for his grandfather, he still runs a lucrative business selling food-based products, emphasising that his success stems from his own hard-earned efforts.

He also addressed another issue regarding his attendance, clarifying that the school had indeed invited him based on his profession as a business owner. He stressed that the Education Ministry has an official notice stating that schools cannot invite popular figures or politicians without prior approval.
