Sabah mineral licence graft trial for Albert Tei set for April 2026

Businessman Albert Tei’s corruption trial over a Sabah mineral exploration licence application is scheduled for five days in April 2026.

KOTA KINABALU: The graft trial of businessman Albert Tei, concerning an application for a mineral exploration licence in Sabah, has been scheduled for April 20 to 24, 2026.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus fixed the dates following a pre-trial case management today.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Dzulkarnain Rousan Hasbi handed over related documents and a compact disc to the defence team.

The defence is represented by counsel Edward Paul, Batholomew Jinggulam and Jul Hamri.

Tei, 37, and two former Sabah assemblymen had pleaded not guilty to corruption charges on June 30.

Former Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof @ Josree Yacob and former Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy entered their pleas after separate charges were read before Judge Jason Juga.

Yusof, 69, was charged with receiving a RM200,000 bribe from Tei to assist with the licence application at a hotel here on March 6, 2023.

Andi Muhammad Suryady, 44, was charged with receiving a RM150,000 bribe from Tei for the same purpose at his residence on May 12, 2023.

Tei faces two counts of giving bribes to Yusof and Andi Muhammad Suryady at the same locations, dates and times.

Fifteen witnesses are expected to be called during the trial proceedings.
