Video shows police allegedly stopping ambulance for VIP convoy in Melaka, sparking outrage over potential delay in life-saving emergency response.
A video circulating on social media has sparked public outrage after it appeared to show an ambulance being stopped to allow VIP tour buses to pass.
The incident reportedly took place near Malacca General Hospital, under the flyover close to the hospital entrance.
A 50-second clip posted on Dec 11 to a Facebook group shows a traffic police officer directing vehicles at a busy intersection beneath the hospital flyover.
The footage shows a police motorcycle escorting four tour buses while an ambulance with its sirens on approaches.
The officer appears to stop the ambulance, prioritising the passage of the VIP convoy.
The apparent delay drew strong criticism from viewers, who expressed concern that precious minutes could be lost for patients in critical condition.
“Why did the traffic police stop the ambulance even though the green light was on?” one user called Lau Eric asked.
“To the ambulance driver: go learn how to drive an ambulance, go take a course. You were also in the wrong lane, and your siren wasn’t even on… the one making the noise was the police motorcycle’s siren,” Nazren Malek highlighted.
Some viewers also criticised the person filming, suggesting their car may have blocked the emergency lane.
The driver responded that they had already moved left to clear the way.
The police have not yet issued a statement or explained why the ambulance was halted.
