Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool squad for Brighton clash after talks

Mohamed Salah is back in Liverpool’s squad for the Brighton match following clear-the-air talks with manager Arne Slot, ending a week of uncertainty

MOHAMED SALAH has been included in Liverpool’s squad for their Premier League match at home to Brighton on Saturday.

The decision follows clear-the-air talks between the Egyptian forward and manager Arne Slot, according to multiple British media reports.

Both the BBC and Sky Sports said Slot made the final call, wanting to act in the club’s best interests.

The Dutch manager had promised to speak to Salah on Friday morning after the player’s public outburst last weekend.

Salah had accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” after being benched for the 3-3 draw at Leeds.

He also told reporters after that match he had no relationship with Slot.

Salah was subsequently omitted from the squad for Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning,” Slot told his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“The outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow.”

Slot added that further discussion should be with Salah directly and not in a media setting.

He confirmed extensive talks had occurred after the Sunderland game on December 3.

“I have no reasons not wanting him to stay,” Slot stated when pressed on the forward’s future.

Salah signed a new two-year contract in April, making him one of the Premier League’s highest earners.

He is set to join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after Saturday’s match.

His absence will depend on how far Egypt progress in the tournament, which concludes on January 18.

Salah is third in Liverpool’s all-time scoring charts with 250 goals in 420 appearances.

He has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his Anfield career.

The 33-year-old scored 29 league goals last season as Liverpool won the title.

He has managed just four goals in 13 Premier League appearances this campaign.

Liverpool sit 10th after a poor run of two wins in their past 10 league games.

Salah has been consistently linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. – AFP
