Fisherman found drowned after boat capsized in Pulau Bruit waters

A fisherman missing since last Thursday was found drowned after his boat was hit by strong waves off Pulau Bruit, Sarawak.

MUKAH: A fisherman reported missing after being thrown into the sea when his boat was hit by strong waves has been found drowned.

The body of 59-year-old Aldin Rakli was recovered this afternoon in the waters off Tanjung Sirik, Pulau Bruit.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis Zone director Maritime Commander Mahkos Juing said the body was found by assisting fishermen at 12.05 pm.

The discovery was made approximately 3.5 nautical miles northwest of Pantai Tekajong.

“The search ended at 1.20 pm,” Mahkos said in a statement.

The victim’s body was brought to the Kampung Tekajong jetty for identification by family members.

It was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

The incident occurred last Thursday around 9 am.

Aldin was travelling with his 42-year-old brother-in-law, Kaharuddin Buang, from Kampung Betanak, Pulau Bruit to Kuala Matu at the time.

Mahkos urged the maritime community to avoid going to sea during turbulent weather.

He also advised all seafarers to follow established safety procedures.
