Tahfiz student killed in head-on collision with lorry in Pekan

A 22-year-old tahfiz student died after his car collided with a palm oil lorry on Jalan Pekan-Rompin. Police are investigating the fatal crash.

PEKAN: A tahfiz student was killed when the car he was driving collided head-on with a palm oil lorry on Jalan Pekan-Rompin.

The 22-year-old victim, Muhammad Fakhri Waqiuddin Basri from Indera Mahkota, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Kampung Merchong.

Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the accident occurred at about 11 pm on Friday.

Initial investigations indicate the victim was travelling from Pekan towards Rompin when his car is believed to have lost control.

The vehicle veered into the opposite lane and collided with the lorry, which was heading to Pekan.

The 28-year-old lorry driver from Rompin escaped the crash uninjured.

Fire and rescue personnel from the Nenasi station were deployed to extricate the trapped student from the wreckage.

Health Ministry personnel later confirmed his death at the scene.

The victim’s body was taken to Pekan Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

It is understood Muhammad Fakhri Waqiuddin was attending the Syahadah Al-Quran programme at the Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
