A couple’s quick response saves a boy who fell into an open manhole in Kuantan
A COUPLE driving along a road in Kuantan witnessed a frightening incident when they saw a boy fall into what appeared to be an open manhole.
Without wasting a second, the husband immediately pulled the handbrake, got out of the car and rushed to rescue the boy.
The wife later shared the incident on Threads, posting a video and photograph.
“As we were passing by, we saw a boy fall into a hole right before our eyes. At that time, there was no one around.
“The boy shouted for help, saying, ‘Tolong, tolong.’ Our hearts were pounding. The hole was deep. The moment he grabbed my husband’s hands, my husband was able to pull him up,” she wrote.
The couple’s quick thinking and selfless actions have since drawn praise from netizens.
Calling them orang baik (good Samaritans), many thanked them for saving the boy.
“Thank you for caring. The hole poses a serious danger. If not for you and your husband… Nauzubillah.”
One woman also shared a similar experience of her own.
“Thank you, “orang baik”. I once fell into a hole. It was such a relief when someone came to help me.”
Many expressed concern that the boy may have suffered emotional trauma from the incident.
“Thank God someone noticed him. The boy must be traumatised,” one concerned woman commented.
Others said the open manhole posed a serious danger to the public.
“It’s scary. My parents always told me never to step on a manhole, no matter how sturdy it looks. I have always feared something like this could happen. I hope the boy isn’t traumatised,” another woman wrote.
Another netizen added: “How could they leave the manhole uncovered? Even at 182cm tall, if I fell inside, I probably wouldn’t be visible from outside. Imagine what could happen to a small child.”
Several netizens also urged the couple to lodge a report with the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, the boy’s mother later expressed her appreciation in a post on the comment section.
“I am the mother of the boy who fell into the hole. Thank you so much for helping my son. When he came home, he told me he had fallen into a drain. I thought he meant the drain in front of our house.
“I was shocked when I saw the video. The drain cover had been in place before. I noticed some people working in that area earlier that morning,” she wrote.
