Motorist prints plea on windscreen after parking app outage prevents payment

A Malaysian driver printed a plea on his windscreen after a parking app outage prevented payment, sparking online debate.

A MALAYSIAN motorist resorted to leaving a printed plea on his car’s windscreen after a technical issue with a well-known local parking app prevented him from paying for his parking, sparking widespread discussion online.

The incident came to light after a Threads user shared his experience on Tuesday (June 30), claiming he spent nearly an hour trying to make the payment but was unable to access the parking app due to an apparent outage.

Fearing that his vehicle would be issued with a parking compound despite his repeated attempts to pay, he printed a notice explaining the situation and placed it on his windscreen for enforcement officers to see.

The notice also included his contact number and evidence showing that he had attempted to make the payment.

“The app is having problems, so I couldn’t pay for my parking. I don’t know if there’ll be any discretion from the authorities. I even left proof to show that I tried,” the caption of his post read.

In the same post, the user urged the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to look into the matter, claiming the issue was not isolated and that motorists across the country were unable to pay for parking because multiple platforms had gone down simultaneously.

“People wasted hours refreshing the app from morning until evening, and in the end, users still received parking compounds.

“It’s disheartening to see so many posts from people who were fined even though they were genuinely trying to pay for parking,” he added.

The post has since gained traction online, with many Malaysians sharing similar experiences during the outage and debating whether local authorities should exercise discretion when technical failures prevent motorists from making parking payments.

One user, ptrsyhdaa, said they experienced the same issue.

“Yesterday, I couldn’t pay using the Smart Selangor app either. The other app didn’t work either, and the GPS couldn’t detect my location,” the user commented.

The post also amused many netizens, with some joking that the driver had gone the extra mile by printing a notice and placing it on his windscreen in the hope of avoiding a parking compound.

“Do you have a printer in your car?” onetech.17 asked.

“The funny part is, he actually had time to print out the screenshot showing his payment attempt. Haha,” cucionthego wrote.
