PM condemns Sydney attack, offers condolences to Australia

PM Anwar Ibrahim condemns the Sydney attack, extends condolences to victims’ families, and affirms Malaysia’s solidarity with Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of victims of a violent attack in Sydney.

In a Facebook post, he also wished those injured a swift and full recovery.

Anwar said he was deeply alarmed by the attack, which claimed innocent lives and left many others injured.

He condemned the act in the strongest possible terms.

“There can be no justification for violence directed at civilians, still less for attacks that single people out on the basis of race or religion, at any time or in any place,” he stated.

The Prime Minister affirmed that such acts have no basis in any faith or belief.

He said Malaysia stands in firm solidarity with the people and Government of Australia at this difficult time.

Anwar added that Malaysia fully supports all efforts to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
