A Kuala Perlis police corporal faces two charges, including dangerous driving causing death, after a fatal collision with a motorcycle in Kangar
KANGAR: A police corporal pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of dangerous driving causing death.
Muhammad Zulhairi Shunazar Abdul Shukor, 38, claimed trial after the charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
The accused, attached to the Kuala Perlis police station, is alleged to have caused a fatal collision with a motorcycle on November 25.
The incident at Jalan Persiaran Wawasan at 10.20 pm resulted in the death of rider Muhammad Firdaus Aiman Zainon, 24.
He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries severe penalties.
Upon conviction, he faces a maximum fine of RM50,000 and up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The magistrate granted him bail of RM4,000 with one surety for this charge.
His driving licence was also suspended pending the conclusion of the case.
The officer pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of driving without due care and attention.
This second charge relates to the same incident causing serious injuries to another motorcyclist, Aliff Noorhakim Alijesree, 25.
He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for this offence.
A conviction under this section carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or up to 12 months’ imprisonment.
He was granted bail of RM1,000 with one surety for the second charge.
The court set January 28, 2026, as the next mention date for both charges.
Traffic prosecuting officer Insp S Mageswaran from Kangar police headquarters appeared for the prosecution.
The accused was represented by counsel Hasnor Arysha Hamdan from the National Legal Aid Foundation. – Bernama
