New suspension bridge to boost Terengganu tourism

A new suspension bridge in Kampung Banggol Cempedak is set to become a key tourism attraction, funded under the government’s MADANI Adopted Village initiative.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A new suspension bridge in Kampung Banggol Cempedak is set to become a key tourism attraction for Terengganu.

The project was funded under the government’s MADANI Adopted Village initiative, which allocated a total of RM2.5 million to the village.

Terengganu State Development director Datuk Abdul Kahar Abdul Latif said the initiative aims to narrow the development gap between rural and urban areas.

“The initiative reflects the government’s commitment, particularly that of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to ensure MADANI Adopted Villages receive development comparable to urban areas,” he said.

The 70-metre-long suspension bridge was completed at a cost of RM890,888 by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department.

Abdul Kahar said the bridge was designed to resemble the iconic Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge and stands six metres high.

He added that the design incorporated flood risk considerations, as the area is prone to flooding towards the end of the year.

The bridge height and riverbank structures were built higher than typical flood levels as a precaution.

Abdul Kahar said Kampung Banggol Cempedak has strong potential as a tourism destination due to its natural attractions.

These include the river, existing chalets and camping facilities available in the area.

He invited visitors from within and outside Terengganu to visit once the area becomes operational.

Other projects under the initiative include the construction of chalets, jogging tracks and riverbank repair works.

These developments are expected to further position the area as a tourism destination in Kuala Terengganu.
