RM1.4 billion in unpaid summonses as RTD discount nears end

Nearly 4.9 million traffic summonses worth RM1.4 billion remain unpaid ahead of the Road Transport Department’s 50% discount deadline on December 30.

KUALA LUMPUR: Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli revealed the staggering figure today.

He said only about 520,000 summonses, valued at RM70 million, have been settled since the discount campaign began on November 1.

“Most of the outstanding summonses involve active offenders and some have been unpaid for over 10 years,” he told reporters during Operation Luxury 4.0 at the Kuala Lumpur RTD Seizure Depot.

He warned that the 50% discount will no longer be available from January 1. Payment rates will then revert to the original amounts.

Aedy Fadly described the scheme as the government’s final opportunity for offenders before introducing a time-based payment system.

“Unsettled summonses may face stricter enforcement in the future,” he added.

“I urge the public to settle their summonses before Dec 30.”

Senior RTD enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Kuala Lumpur RTD director Hamidi Adam were also present at the operation.
