Langkawi ferry tickets surge as 74,000 sold ahead of school holidays

Over 74,000 ferry tickets to and from Langkawi are sold for the upcoming holidays, with 100 extra trips planned to meet high travel demand.

ALOR SETAR: Consortium Ferry Line Ventures has sold 74,000 ferry tickets for travel between the mainland and Langkawi ahead of the school holidays.

Operations Manager Lieutenant Commander (Rtd) Norhafiz Abdul Wahid said 36,000 tickets were sold from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis to Langkawi, with 38,000 sold for the return journey.

“The total tickets sold are for the 24-day school holiday period starting this Friday,” he said at a press conference at the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal.

He expects sales to increase further during the Christmas and New Year peak periods.

The operator will add 100 extra ferry trips throughout the holiday season to meet the surge in passenger demand.

Ferries are currently operating five scheduled trips daily on each route, with two additional trips added per day.

“So far, there are no additional night trips, but if passenger numbers continue to rise, we may extend operations until 10 pm,” Norhafiz added.

He noted ticket purchase trends are rising, though not as high as during the recent LIMA’25 exhibition.

Tickets remain available for purchase online or at ferry terminal counters.

Norhafiz assured that Ferry Line complies with all Malaysian Marine Department safety directives.

This includes providing life jackets and ensuring navigational lights are functional.

Ferry maintenance has been completed, with standby vessels ready to avoid service disruptions from any technical issues.

“Weather conditions are also favourable,” he stated.

All ferry trips have operated smoothly despite the ongoing Northeast Monsoon, with no journeys turned back. – Bernama
