Driver flees after crash on Federal Highway

Police are tracking a driver who fled after allegedly causing a dangerous driving crash on the Federal Highway on June 20.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down the driver of a Perodua Kembara who allegedly fled the scene after driving dangerously and causing an accident along the Federal Highway on June 20.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the incident came to the attention of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) after a video of the crash went viral on social media yesterday.

He said preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred at about 6.10 pm and involved a vehicle believed to have been driven by a 59-year-old local man travelling from Shah Alam towards Kuala Lumpur.

“The vehicle was allegedly driven recklessly before colliding with a car and a motorcycle, resulting in minor injuries to the motorcyclist, who was taken to a hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact Sgt M. Kumaran at 03-7966 2222 to assist with the investigation.
