Penang LRT works to cause partial lane closures on two major roads

Night-time partial lane closures on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang for LRT Mutiara Line utility works

GEORGE TOWN: A long-term periodic partial lane closure at night on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah will be carried out from December 18 to February 16 next year.

The closure is for utility identification and relocation works for the Light Rail Transit Mutiara Line project.

Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd said the closure will take place between 10 pm and 5 am.

It involves the far-left lane in both directions between the Jalan Mayang Pasir junction and Bayan Indah Police Village.

“However, one lane will always remain open to traffic,” MRT Corp said in a statement.

The closure is necessary to allow preliminary works for the Penang LRT Mutiara Line Package CMC1.

This involves road excavation to identify and relocate utilities.

Road users are urged to exercise caution when passing through the area.

Signage, traffic cones and flagmen will be stationed at specified locations for traffic control and safety.

MRT Corp also announced a long-term periodic partial lane closure on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

This closure runs from Gat Lebuh Macallum to Gat Lebuh Cecil from 5 pm to 6 am from December 13 to 31.

“The closure is carried out for road widening works,” added the statement.

During this period, part of the route will be closed.

Traffic teams will be on-site to ensure traffic flow stays smooth and safe. – Bernama
