Six Malaysians have returned safely from flood-hit Sumatra, but one remains missing after 23 days as Indonesia’s death toll exceeds 1,000.
SEREMBAN: The Foreign Ministry continues to monitor the flood and landslide disasters in West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said seven Malaysians were initially stranded by the flooding.
He confirmed six individuals have now safely returned to Malaysia.
One Malaysian, Asrul Nizam Apridwson, remains missing after 23 days.

“The search for the missing victim has now entered its 23rd day, and there has been no latest update from the Indonesian authorities,” Mohamad said.
Regarding students, Education Malaysia reported 49 Malaysians were in Aceh as of December 16.
Mohamad stated 24 students remain in Aceh while 25 have returned safely to Malaysia.
“Our students in Aceh are safe,” he confirmed.
The Ministry of Higher Education has provided RM500 in financial assistance to affected Malaysian students in Indonesia.
Mohamad cited Indonesia’s disaster agency reporting 1,071 deaths from the disaster.
The agency also reported 185 people are still missing and over 525,868 residents are displaced.
Indonesia estimates recovery costs for the three provinces will exceed RM12.7 million. – Bernama
