Second drone found crashed in northwest Turkey within 24 hours

A second drone of unknown origin has been found crashed in Turkey’s Balikesir region, following another suspected Russian drone discovery near the Black Sea.

BALIKESIR: A second drone has been discovered crashed in northwest Turkey within a 24-hour period.

Turkish media reported the unmanned aerial vehicle of unknown origin was found in an empty field near the town of Balikesir.

The location is approximately three hours southwest of Istanbul.

Authorities had not officially commented, but broadcasters Halk TV and Haberturk reported the drone was transported to Ankara for analysis.

Citing local farmers, several media outlets reported the crash appeared to have occurred days earlier.

This incident marks the third such discovery since Monday.

It follows Turkey’s warnings to both Russia and Ukraine against letting their war spill over into the region.

Authorities have blamed Russia for a drone found on Friday near the city of Izmit.

That location is about 30 kilometres south of the Black Sea.

The Turkish interior ministry stated the earlier drone “is believed to be of Russian-made Orlan-10 type used for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes according to initial findings”.

An investigation into that incident has been opened.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned against the Black Sea becoming an “area of confrontation” between Russia and Ukraine.
