The UK condemns Israel’s approval of 19 new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, warning it undermines peace prospects.
LONDON: The United Kingdom has condemned the Israeli government’s approval of 19 new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
British Middle East and North Africa Minister Hamish Falconer (pic) stated the move is illegal under international law.
His remarks followed the Israeli Cabinet’s approval of the proposal, bringing the total new settlements in recent years to 69.
“This risks undermining the 20 Point Plan and prospects for the long-term peace and security that only a two-state solution can deliver,” Falconer warned.
The 20 Point Plan refers to US President Donald Trump’s roadmap to end the Gaza war.
Since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,102 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Palestinian figures also report nearly 11,000 injuries and around 21,000 detentions in the same period.
In a July opinion, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal.
