Ong Kim Swee appointed as new NFDP technical director

Former national coach Ong Kim Swee takes the helm of Malaysia’s National Football Development Programme, tasked with improving youth development outcomes.

PETALING JAYA: Former Harimau Malaya coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has been appointed as the new technical director of the National Football Development Programme.

His appointment, effective from December 1, was announced by Football Association of Malaysia acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi.

Mohd Yusoff expressed confidence that Kim Swee’s experience can drive the national youth development initiative forward.

“We fully trust Kim Swee and the technical team to evaluate each officer and coach based on the wisdom and needs of the programme,” he said.

He stressed that every decision must steer the programme towards improvement, with a focus on positive impact from all personnel.

When questioned about key performance indicators, Mohd Yusoff stated that Kim Swee must demonstrate better achievements than his predecessor.

“Development programmes usually require a period of at least two years because they cannot be achieved in a short time,” he explained.

He added that KPIs need to be set higher than before and evaluated on an annual basis.

“We don’t want to appoint new people but the KPIs remain the same,” Mohd Yusoff said.

Each appointee is expected to show better results or make a positive impact on the programme’s effectiveness.
