MACC urges Chegubard to file report over military corruption claims

The MACC has called for a formal report on allegations of corruption involving a senior military officer, stating it will investigate any claims backed by credible evidence.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has urged activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, known as Chegubard, to lodge a formal report over his corruption allegations against a senior Malaysian Armed Forces officer.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission would investigate any allegation of corruption or abuse of power backed by credible information and evidence.

He stated that the MACC has not yet received any official complaint or supporting documents regarding the matter.

“All MACC investigations are conducted independently and professionally, and are based solely on facts and evidence,” Azam said when contacted.

Earlier, Badrul Hisham claimed that forensic checks on anonymously received documents showed monthly deposits of tens of thousands of ringgit into accounts linked to the senior officer and family members.

Chegubard was at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters to lodge a police report over the allegation.

He completed giving his statement at about 4.30 pm.

Bernama has yet to receive confirmation from the police regarding the report.
