Baby with eye tumour to receive RM500 monthly welfare aid

A one-year-old boy battling a germ cell tumour will get RM500 monthly from JKM and a Perak Sejahtera Card to help his family with medical costs.

IPOH: A one-year-old boy battling a germ cell tumour will receive monthly financial assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said Firas Affan Mohd Fauzi will get RM500 per month starting in January.

The aid is approved under the category for chronically ill patients.

“We also approved the Perak Sejahtera Card last October,” Salbiah said after visiting the baby at his home in Bandar Lahat Baru.

She expressed hope that the state government’s assistance would ease the family’s burden.

The baby’s father, Mohd Fauzi Saad, 43, expressed deep gratitude for the support.

“I am deeply touched by the concern shown by the state government, as well as by members of the public who came forward to help after the media reported on my son’s illness,” he said.

He added that he often takes leave to bring his son to hospital two or three times a week.

Firas Affan’s mother, Anis Azwanie Azmi, 29, had previously said her son often appeared lethargic with facial swelling before being referred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The baby has undergone two chemotherapy sessions and requires several more rounds of treatment.
