Twelve Orang Asli men detained for alleged plantation trespass

Police arrest 12 Orang Asli men for allegedly trespassing on an oil palm plantation in Rompin, following a court order for the community to vacate the land.

KUANTAN: Police have detained 12 Orang Asli men for allegedly trespassing into a company’s oil palm plantation in Kampung Tanam, Rompin.

Rompin district police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the men, aged between 20 and 44, were arrested after a report was lodged by a company representative.

“The man, 44, lodged a complaint at 9 am about 12 Orang Asli who gathered at the oil palm plantation without permission,” he said in a statement.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

The case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action.

Sharif Shai noted that the Kuantan High Court had issued an order on October 15 for the Orang Asli in Kampung Tanam to vacate the land.

The court order was issued after ownership of the land was granted to the related company.
