The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department is investigating a viral video of a man dressed as a woman, citing Syariah law violations.
PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) has been instructed to investigate a viral social media video of a man dressed as a woman at an international event.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the directive enables appropriate legal action.
He stated the act sparked public outrage and is seen as challenging religious and cultural norms.
“From an Islamic perspective, impersonating another gender is contrary to Syariah law and should not be normalised in society,” he said.
JAWI has also been ordered to cooperate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to remove related content.
Zulkifli added that dakwah and preventive efforts will continue through sermons and programmes to preserve harmony.
The issue arose from a 27-second video showing the man receiving an award while dressed as a woman.
