Penang, Johor, Selangor, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur contributed 85.5% of Malaysia’s total exports in November 2025, says DOSM.
KUALA LUMPUR: Five states dominated Malaysia’s export performance in November 2025, accounting for 85.5% of the national total.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that Penang, Johor, Selangor, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur were the leading contributors.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said Malaysia’s exports rose by RM8.9 billion or 7% year-on-year to RM135 billion in November.
Penang remained the top exporter with a 39.2% share, followed by Johor at 21.1% and Selangor at 15.2%.
Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur contributed 6.7% and 3.3% shares respectively.
“The increase in exports was attributed to higher exports in most states,” Mohd Uzir said in the Export-Import Statistics by State report.
Key increases were recorded in Penang (up RM6.9 billion), Johor (up RM5.2 billion), Perak (up RM699.1 million), Sabah (up RM36.3 million) and Negeri Sembilan (up RM17.7 million).
Exports decreased in Selangor by RM1.4 billion and Sarawak by RM969.8 million.
Other states recording declines were Pahang, Labuan, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Melaka.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s imports in November increased by 15.8% year-on-year to RM128.9 billion.
The import increase was driven by higher purchases in Penang (up RM9.4 billion), Selangor (up RM5 billion) and Kuala Lumpur (up RM3.2 billion).
Johor, Perak, Melaka and Sabah also recorded import growth.
Imports decreased in Negeri Sembilan, Labuan, Sarawak, Pahang, Kelantan, Perlis, Kedah and Terengganu.
Penang also led in imports with a 28.6% share, followed by Selangor at 26.2% and Johor at 18.3%.
