Selangor plans emergency units for Smart Sewa housing scheme

Selangor is drafting a plan to include emergency units in all Smart Sewa housing projects to provide temporary shelter for disaster victims

PORT KLANG: The Selangor state government is preparing a working paper to establish emergency units in all housing projects under the Smart Sewa Scheme.

State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said this aims to enhance readiness for future disasters like floods.

“We emphasised the importance of providing multiple units in each area for emergency use, including temporary assistance for flood victims,” he told reporters after a working visit to Flat Seri Perantau.

He said the working paper will ensure preparedness in terms of allocation, logistics, and maintenance for immediate use.

Borhan stressed the need for proper working papers before approving any additional allocations for these units.

This will ensure the provision is carried out in an orderly manner and complies with standard procedures.

“We need to ensure that every unit offered under the Smart Sewa Scheme has the capacity to be used in emergencies,” he said.

This preparedness will give residents confidence that the state government is always ready for any eventuality.

On the state’s target of building 200,000 housing units in one term, Borhan said nearly 80,000 units have been completed.

He added that around 120,000 units are still under implementation, requiring strict monitoring to ensure timely completion.

This aligns with the mission of providing affordable housing for the people of Selangor.
