Perak increases its stray animal management budget to RM300,000 for 2025, expanding neutering and shelter programmes to more districts.
IPOH: The Perak state government has doubled its allocation for humane stray animal management to RM300,000 for next year.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching (pic) said this reflects the government’s commitment to public safety, health, and humanitarian values.
“This year, an allocation of RM150,000 was provided and with the available budget, we were only able to operate in several areas around Ipoh and Kampar,” she said.
Ng stated the increased budget will allow the programme to expand to Taiping and Manjung based on community requests.
She spoke after officiating the closing of the Perak Pawsitive Initiative 2025 at Dewan Megastar.
The initiative is a holistic approach launched in 2024 to address stray animals humanely.
It focuses on neutering, vaccination, and public education programmes.
Ng added that the state has also allocated RM100,000 specifically for building stray animal shelters.
She also commented on the upcoming Feeder Mapping Application, a tool for systematic neutering and monitoring.
The application is expected to be operational early next year.
“It will be open to feeder communities, NGOs, volunteers and individuals involved in stray animal welfare,” she said.
Ng explained the app aims to coordinate information and strengthen cooperation between agencies and the community.
“This approach is also in line with smart city aspirations,” she said.
She added that technology should ease work processes and enhance policy effectiveness.
