ISTANBUL: Storm Johannes has left a trail of destruction across the Nordic region, claiming three lives and leaving tens of thousands without electricity.
The storm, which swept through the area over the weekend, killed three people in Sweden after trees fell on them.
More than 15,000 Swedish households were still without power on Monday morning as the storm began to subside, according to broadcaster SVT.
In Finland, the situation was similarly severe, with over 33,000 customers waking up without electricity in the southwestern and western parts of the country, broadcaster Yle reported.
Authorities anticipate the damage will cost hundreds of thousands of euros, particularly in Finland’s South and Central Ostrobothnia region.
Norway also faced significant disruption from the severe weather, though in a different form.
Heavy snowfall in the country’s far north led to road closures and travel delays.
Several mountain passes in southern Norway were also expected to remain closed throughout the day.
