Pickle manufacturer sets sight on expansion

    BUTTERWORTH: Pickle producer Pak Ali Fruit Industries Sdn Bhd has begun construction of a new plant to produce the preserved fruits to cater to rising demand.
    Managing director Alias Ali said the new factory here is expected to be opened in two years' time and production will start shortly after.
    He said he expects production to triple when the plant begins operation.
    Alias said the company managed to produce 1,240 tonnes of preserved fruits in 2013, almost doubling the previous year's production of 635 metric tonnes.
    "Our increase in production is consistent with the increase in demand from our customers," he said in his speech during the ground breaking ceremony today.
    Also present was Penang Governor Tun Dr Abdul Rahman Abbas, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Rashid Hasnon and Agriculture and Agro-based Industries deputy minister Datuk Tajudin Abdul Rahman.
    The company is well known for its Jeruk Madu Pak Ali (Pak Ali's honeyed pickles) products which was started in 1985 before expanding with the help of government agencies in 2009.
