In the Spotlight

DECORATING your home for Hari Raya is now made easier with the arrival of Spotlight, one of Australia’s largest fabric, craft, party and homemaker superstore.
It officially opens its first – and flagship – store at Ampang Point Mall in Kuala Lumpur on July 12.
The opening marks the first of many stores planned for Malaysia by Spotlight with the aim of bringing a unique and convenient shopping experience for all.
“Spotlight is a family-owned business that started 41 years ago,” said its general marketing manager, Jono Gelfand, at the recent media launch.
“The first store opened in Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market in 1973 where it sold fabric by the metre.
“Right now, Spotlight sells more than just fabric. Over the years, we have expanded into a wider selection of categories, ranging from home furnishing, bedding, home decor to handicraft, hobby and party essentials at great value.”
Gelfand added that they have been eyeing Malaysia for many years to open a store here.
“Now that we’re here, we’re committed to opening 12 stores in the next five years. We have three more stores to fulfil this year and probably another eight or nine in the next three to five years.
“We’re making it clear that we are here to stay.”
Spotlight is a convenient one-stop hub for everything you would need for your home.
From bedsheets and linens to towels and kitchenware as well as ready-made or custom-made curtains, Spotlight’s home furnishing department will make even the most fussy homemaker happy with its ample choice and range available.
Besides household essentials, shoppers will be inspired by its range of decorative rugs, candles, wall art and vases to grace the home.
For avid dressmakers or sewing hobbyists, Spotlight has a comprehensive range of fabrics in hundreds of colours and shades.
The selection includes dress and fashion fabrics as well as knitting, quilting and sewing materials.
From poplin, lawn, gingham, silky crepe de chines to beautiful satin, the superstore prides itself on the assurance that “every seamstress will find a fabric that suits her taste and budget”.
Meanwhile, hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts can also indulge their creativity with craft supplies and DIY products, including gift cards, cake-decorating items, beading and doll-making accessories.
The superstore also offers fun and unique party decorations that include gift wraps, balloons, tableware, costumes, novelty items, and whatnot.
Trained Spotlight staff will be on hand to help shoppers with their selection of bedding, fabrics as well as all their other shopping needs.
There will also be upcoming complimentary workshop sessions organised by the creative specialists at Spotlight for interested shoppers.
