Awie's wife absent for 'sulh' process on child custody

KUALA LUMPUR: The "sulh" process or mediation on permanent child custody between rock singer Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, and his estranged wife, Rozana Misbun, did not go ahead as planned as the latter was not present at the Syariah Court here today.
Lawyer Mohd Hafizal Parcho, representing Awie, said only his client was present for the sulh process, which was to be heard before Surayah Ramlee, the officer-in charge.
"Today was supposed to be the mediation process between my client and Rozana on the custody of their children, but because Rozana was absent, the process failed," he added.
He said they received a facsimile from Rozana yesterday to inform that she would not be present today for the sulh process.
"However, no reason was stated," said Mohd Hafizal, adding that the court had set Sept 3 for mention of the case.
On July 21, Awie, 46, obtained a Syariah High Court order for temporary custody of his three children and also an injunction order which restrains Rozana from coming into contact with him and the children, be it through the print or electronic media.
Meanwhile, Awie, when approached by reporters, declined to make any comments.
The rock singer and Rozana tied their marriage knot in Songhkla, Thailand, on June 20, 2005. They have three children, sons Putra Ahmad Merrah, seven, and Putra Ahmad Rezzki, six, and daughter, Puteri Qasseh Antasha, four.
On July 4 this year, Awie, the main actor in the films, Zombie Kampung Pisang and Hantu Kak Limah, was charged under the Penal Code with voluntarily causing grievous hurt on Rozana at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari. – Bernama
