Some truth in securing jobs through ‘cables’

KUALA LUMPUR: Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot disagrees with the perception that "inside people" or better known as "cables", are involved in making it easier for applicants to secure positions in the public sector.
He said although there might be some truth in this, it is not as easy as perceived by some quarters.
"(The expression) 'It's not what you know, but who you know' to get a job (in the public sector) has some truth. However, we must remember that to get a job, particularly in the public sector, an applicant must go through interviews to assess them."
Riot said this in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Baru) who wanted to know whether it is true that "inside people" are involved in facilitating applicants whom they knew to get a job in the public sector, a concern expressed by many new graduates.
Riot said his ministry would continue to play the role of "matchmaker" between graduates and employers through various programmes. – Bernama
