Zahid asks ROS to resolve MIC issues

PETALING JAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has issued a request to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to resolve the issues pertaining to the current MIC situation.
MIC secretary-general Datuk G. Kumar Aamaan visited the Home Ministry today to present a memorandum to Ahmad Zahid, stating that MIC is dissatisfied with the process taken by the registrar as it is not transparent and not done according to the proper rules of justice.
Ahmad Zahid said he has forwarded the memorandum to both his acting secretary-general and the director-general of ROS to come up with a viable solution.
"I have requested ROS to address the issues pertaining to the validity of G. Kumar immediately," he added.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting former RTM chief news editor, Khairuddin Che Long, who is battling cancer.
T. Rajasekaran, who was speaking on behalf of Kumar, explained that they had sought two appointments with the ROS director-general but the meeting was cancelled at the last minute on both occasions.
"The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the invalidation of the party's secretary-general and central working committee (CWC) posts before the 90-day period (given for us to respond)," he said.
He added that although the registrar has invalidated Kumar's post and that of the CWC, they had sent the CWC three letters.
"If they (say) that the CWC is invalid, then why sent it to the CWC in the first place?" he said.
The group had also visited the ROS office, where they hoped to meet the director-general but claimed that they were not entertained by any ROS officers.
The registrar had nullified the posts of the party's three vice-presidents and 23 CWC members, who were elected in 2013 and recommended that the party hold fresh elections within 90 days from Dec 5.
Meanwhile, in PUTRAJAYA, Kumar started a hunger strike today at the ROS headquarters at the Chancery Building to protest the action of the registrar.
He said he would hold the strike "until the last breath" or until they remove the ROS director-general and officers in charge of the MIC re-election investigation.
On the move by Kumar, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said: "It's not good. It's not a culture we should allow, (especially) not in Malaysia."
He also said he will meet party chief Datuk Seri G. Palanivel next week to resolve the ROS issue and discuss the future of two MIC branches — Merlimau Utara and Rumah Pangsa Pekeliling Selatan.
