Lee was one of the greatest leaders in the world, says Berjaya Corp founder
KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Berhad founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan reckons Singapore's late founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew is one of the greatest leaders in the world.
Tan told reporters that the former premier was truly an admirable individual, particularly for what he has done and achieved for Singapore by transforming the nation into what it is today.
"Not only that, Lee is also one of the few people in the world that I admire most," he said after signing the condolence book at the Singapore High Commission here today.
Tan added that although there was a great difference between how Lee and former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad handled their respective government administrations and resolved any issues that arose, both wanted the best for their respective countries.
"There might be times where both had different opinions on how they should run their governments but I know deep down both of them had great respect for each other," he said.
With Tan was his eldest son, Berjaya Corp chairman and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Robin Tan, and some top management personnel of Berjaya Corp.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, also paid his last respect to the former premier, said Lee's passing was not only a great loss for Singapore and Lee's family, it was also a great lost for Malaysia as its immediate neighbour, as well as the region.
"Lee was truly a remarkable and visionary man as he has in his own way charted the path of what Singapore is today as well as how the nation should be in the future," he added.
Lee passed away peacefully at the Singapore General Hospital on Monday morning at 3.18am. He was 91.
The condolence book will be open to the public till Saturday.
